Check hold on new accounts.. -
- Amy Bangs - 4/16/2014 -
commentI had a bad experience. I opened a new account and they would not credit my account initially. They said they had a 6 day hold (for 6 days, a snail could have taken my IN TOWN check and cashed it). After discussions, they told me, when I deposited my most recent payroll check (written on a COMMERCE account by COMMERCE Bank Customer) and I was told that $100 of the $600 was available that day, but the remaining amount was to be available the next day. Not only was the $100 not credited, but nothing was. I called and the person on the phone said I had to talk to a bank officer and she would have one call. Of course, no one called. My boss then took time to go to the bank to get the check cleared, but the person she talked to was arrogant and told her that they could hold the check for up to 9 days and that is what he decided to do. Now my boss is upset, because basically the bank officer just told her that her check is n good until 9 days.
This is unethical and immoral if not illegal. Since it was a check from the same facility and the same bank, there should be no reason for the hold and whether is was on purpose or not, I was lied to and hence caused severe hardship on me financially.
After talking to other banks, they were shocked at the egregious handling and that they would have at least approved the check, from their own account holder, immediately or at least by the next day. One banker said this is one of the reasons they were getting a lot of Commerce Bank's business.
You have no reason to keep it. I assume you are using this process to use my money to create a float you can make money on. I wonder how many others are in my situation, and hence how much unethical gain the bank is making.
I hope this poor business decision can be immediately reversed and that the funds already in your hands (you have taken it out of my boss's account)is credited to my account.
